I’m interested in having my own bees, but don’t know where to start!
We often here this from our awesome supporters. Joining a club or finding a mentor is always a great place to start, but sometimes that’s not possible, or you want to learn some basic information and skills first. Well you have come to the right place. This new blog series will go through the do’s and don’ts of beginner beekeeping as well as teaching you the basic skills, terminology and hive breakdown you will need to know before you brave the sting of beekeeping!
Ask 10 beekeepers the same question and you will get 50 answers. This blog will showcase how we keep bees, this process works for us and our bees are thriving. This doesn’t mean it’s the only way of beekeeping. Throughout your own journey, you may find other processes work better for you, and that’s great. As long as we have happy healthy bees, the process is yours to design and perfect.
Here at The Urban Bee Co we are developing our own method or regenerative beekeeping and we will detail the nuances of this process throughout the coming blogs. However, the guiding principle of our regenerative process is Consistent brood rotation and Cold pressed honey extraction, this then allows for fresh frames to be drawn out for the laying queen which we believe results in a healthier queen and hive, reduced residual chemical load in the hive and better tasting honey.
We hope you will let us come on your beekeeping journey. We are here to help you and help the bees. Lets brave the sting of beekeeping together!
